Introduction

The Ministry of Information Communication Technology (MICT) would like to acknowledge the efforts of individuals and organizations who have excelled, been innovative and have contributed meaningfully to the development of our nation through ICTs. To this effect, a committee which is comprised of Ministry Officials and ICT Stakeholders, was set up to organize a Zimbabwe Information Communication Technology Achievers Awards (ZICTAAs) ceremony to be held on 5 November 2016.

Rational

Information Communication Technology is a powerful force of socio-economic change in developing countries, as a result, efforts of individuals and organizations who have excelled, been innovative and have contributed meaningfully to the development of the nation through ICTs need to be acknowledged. The Zimbabwe Information Communication Technology Achievers Awards (ZICTAAs) are the Ministry’s way of appreciating the efforts of those operating in the ICT Industry and will hopefully mark the beginning of a renewed thrust for excellence, indigenization and use of ICTs to improve people’s lives and business operations.

Objectives

The objectives of the ZICTA 2016 Award ceremony are:
1. To celebrate the achievements of players in the ICT Industry.
2. To reward and encourage excellence, in practice and ethics, in the industry.
3. To promote indigenization and localization of ICTs in Zimbabwe
4. To provide a platform for players in ICT and related industries to meet and create networks beneficial for the development of the nation through ICTs.
5. To ignite interest in ordinary Zimbabweans to use ICTs in their learning, everyday life and employment for the betterment of their lives.

Proposed award Categories

1. Top ICT Company of the year (large/ SME).
2. Top ICT Project of the year (Public/ Private).

3. Top ICT  Website of the year.(Public/ Private) 
4. Top Young  ICT innovator of the year (35 years and below).
5. Top ICT Enabled Courier Company of the year.
6. Top ICT school of the year.(Urban/ Rural)
7. Top ICT Web  Developer of the year (Company/ Individual).
8. Top ICT Business Person of the year.(Woman / Man)
9. Top ICT Journalist of the year.
10. Top ICT animator of the year.

Guidelines

1. Awards are open to Zimbabwean citizens and all companies registered in Zimbabwe.
2. Submissions, which should be tailored to the category entered, should stress competitive advantage, innovation and evidence of excellence achieved by the individual or company. Information on financial figures and volume sales are to be submitted where necessary.
3. Nominees are to submit a write-up of not more than 1000 words supporting documents, which should be a maximum of 500 words per page by 30 October 2016 to the Ministry of ICT.

Judge Selection

Judges will be chosen from each of the following sectors:
1. Government
2. Private Sector
3. Civil Society
4. Academia
5. International Community
6. Ordinary Citizens

Judges must have the following qualities:

1. Knowledge of ICT Industry would be an advantage
2. Be part of senior management in that firm.
To ensure transparency a registered audit firm will be engaged to scrutinize the adjudication process. There will be eight different teams of adjudicators for different categories. These will remain anonymous.

6. Ordinary Citizens
This event will reach out to 254 attendants on the day of the event, but will also be broadcasted on national television, ZTV 1, and on radio, reaching out to all Zimbabweans.
